Board Members

President - Barbara Rajkowska, MBA, MsEng

Barbara joined the Board of the Epilepsy Association of South Australia and the Northern Territory Inc. (EASANT) in 2001, through the Business SA 100 Hours Project. The members elected her as Vice President in November 2003 and as President in October 2004. Barbara has over twenty five years of experience in management of open cut mining operations, corporate change, marketing, retailing and energy trading, development and implementation of corporate strategies, corporate governance.
Barbara previously worked for TRUenergy PTY. Ltd as National Manager Large Customer Portfolio and is now consulting. She has been a Board member of the Environment Protection Authority of South Australia and is currently a Director of WorkCover Corp
.

 

Vice President - Michelle Bellon, PhD

Elected onto the Board November 2003, Michelle was elected as Vice President at the AGM in October 2004. Michelle is a lecturer in the Department of Disability Studies, Flinders University. She recently completed her PhD on the management of post traumatic epilepsy, exploring the effect of psychoeducational approaches. Michelle’s work and research has a strong focus on community based rehabilitation following brain injury, with particular interest in epilepsy and mental health.

 

Vice President -  Debra Kay, PSM B Ed Grad Dip Language & Literature

Debra Kay’s background in the disability, education and community development sectors is extensive, with valuable experience working with the Government, she is currently Chief Executive Officer of Asthma Foundations Australia. Debra has served on the Board of Shine SA, Asthma SA. The Brain Injury Network of SA and the Nurses Board. Her previous long standing roles were with the Smith Family as Regional Programs Manager and the Department of Education and Children’s Services (DECS), where she was responsible for statewide health related policy and programs in education and children’s services. Debra was awarded a Public Service Medal (awarded under the Australian Honours) for work in assisting children with health care needs to access education.

 

Treasurer - John Barnett OAM, JP

John has held an Executive position on the Board of Management for the nearly twenty five years, and served 3 years on the TAPS Programme Advisory Board. He has a background in Hospital Administration 1970/1984 and is a member of Legacy Club of Adelaide and the Gilles Plains and Hampstead RSL Club. John received the NEAA Epilepsy Excellence Award in 1988, was awarded Life Membership of the Association in 1995 and received the Order of Australia Medal in 1997.

 

Secretary - Andrew Wicks

Andrew is a qualified mining engineer and accountant and has worked for 15 years as an engineer in underground and open cut production environments.  For the past 20 years Andrew has worked in accounting related positions with ETSA, BHPBilliton and Santos. His introduction to and interest in EASANT is through his personal experience with epilepsy.  Andrew was elected to the Board in October 2004.  Andrew was elected Secretary at the 2006 Annual General Meeting.

 

Board Member - Alwyn Dolling

A founding member, Alwyn has held the positions of President, Vice President and Board Member. As a Neurology Social Worker, she received in 1977 the Catherine Helen Spence Scholarship to study services and facilities for people with epilepsy in Europe, the UK and Scandinavia. In the IRS/IDSC Alwyn was the Senior Social Worker. Alwyn has been the President and is at present the Secretary of the SA Coloured Sheep Owners’ Society and continues to be an active member of the Catherine Helen Spence Memorial Scholarship Committee. 1992 saw Alwyn receive the Epilepsy Excellence Award from NEAA and in 1995 she was awarded Life Membership of EASA. Alwyn is an Executive Member of the St Ann’s Foundation Committee.

 

Board Member - Scott Dolling OAM

Scott had held a Committee position since 1977 and Honorary Secretary for nine years. He was elected President in October 2001. In October 2004 he resigned from the position and is now a Vice President. A Sheep Geneticist, sheep and wool research worker, he is the President of the international group, the “Committee on Genetic Nomenclature of Sheep and Goats,” a Committee Member of the Australian Society of Animal Production (SA Branch) and of the SA Coloured Sheep Owner’s Society. Scott initiated the establishment of the Epilepsy Foundation of South Australia and remains an active Board Member.

 

Board Member - Liz Renton

Liz Renton is a Systems Test Engineer who has been assisting organisations to develop and execute their software testing processes, both within Australia and internationally, since 1997.  Her work has included strategic planning, test laboratory establishment, management and process audit for test projects across a range of industries and environments and the running of her own software testing consultancy for a number of years.  She became involved in The Epilepsy Centre in October 2008 seeking an opportunity to contribute something back to the community and lent assistance on a number of ongoing projects before being elected to the Board in February 2009.
